Women in development and Gender Programme started in 2002 for the purpose of empowering disadvantaged women in the areas of economic and social aspects

Main Roles

1.    To mobilize women groups
2.    To assist in formulating of self help economic groups
3.    To support establishment of income generating projects e.g. crushing pebbles,  grinding machine, food processing,  agriculture production , livestock keeping, fishing ponds,
4.    To conduct min research on gender based violence.
5.    To link groups and individuals with micro credit facilities (SACCOS)
6.    To facilitate on how to establish and operate VICOBA
7.    To support agriculture and livestock inputs example improved seeds and breed 
8.    Improved gender relation in the society through gender mainstreaming workshops.
9.    To Train Paralegals so that to offer legal aid to the victims at the village and ward levels
10.    Organizing learnt visit inside and outside the Diocese
11.    Network with Same and Mwanga District Councils in the areas of community development, agriculture and livestock production
12.    Developing legal training manual for training paralegals
13.    To supervise and evaluate activities performed  in the programme

Successes

1.    Establishment of VICOBA facilitates women to receive loans with low interest rate. For instance within a period of one year Nyabinda villages possess 10,800.000 M and Kiti cha Mungu possess 4,000.000 M

2.    At Chomvu village, Women groups are  engaging themselves with petty business such as selling of salt, sugar, rice, cooking oil to the group members.

For example a group of 10 pp bought 50kg. Of rice for 1500Tsh as wholesale tshs75000. Each member supposed to buy 5kgs. For 1800tshs as retail.  This is 5kgs x10pp x 1800Ths=90,000Tshs. Therefore, in every monthly for the item of rice they are getting a profit of 15000.Tshs.

3.    At Mvure village –Kihurio ward: Two groups of Mabona and Jitegemee were able to harvest 18bags of paddy and they sold @35000 hence they have received 630,000tshs. After being supported 200kgs (2 bags) of paddy.

4.    Mhero Village –Chome ward. A  woman from Mhero Kati group was able to buy 3 iron sheets for her house, @17,000 Tshs. this fund t received from VICOBA activities

5.    Reduction of food shortage after harvesting enough food from soya beans and  paddy production

6.    Managing basic needs such as buying uniforms and affording school fees

7.    Increasing of dairy goat from 11 to 22 dairy goats

8.    About half of the women groups have registered with National Health Insurance Fund

9.    About 38 women  have won different village posts such as sub village leaders and members of village council
